Weyland Steiner and crossbase:
One solution for 100,000 items

Weyland Steiner uses crossbase to import data from the ERP system and export it for print and online.

"The focus for us was on the ability to enter data quickly and easily. This was a particular challenge, as several thousand items per supplier often have to be updated and synchronized in the retail sector. We succeeded with crossbase."

Dominik Fimberger

Project Manager
Weyland Steiner Handwerks- & Industriebedarf GmbH & Co KG

Weyland-Steiner, based in Bergheim near Salzburg, offers a wide range of over 40,000 stock items for customers from industry and trade: Building and hardware products, fastening technology, fittings, tools and machines. Weyland-Steiner employs around 230 people at six Austrian locations.

The existing PIM system was replaced by crossbase and the data migrated as part of a company merger with Schmidt's Erben. Currently, over 40,000 articles are continuously imported from the ERP system to the crossbase solution via the XML interface, where they are structured, enriched with additional content and prepared for output in print and online.

Most of the product information is maintained at master product level. For this reason, the inheritance concept is used. This inherits defined content to the subordinate levels and thus minimizes the maintenance effort. In addition, some of the data maintained in crossbase is returned to the ERP system via the API interface so that the data is always identical.

Another important criterion was print media production. This needed to be quick and easy. This was achieved with the crossbase solution despite a demanding layout in which, for example, the placement of images had to be mirrored depending on the left or right-hand side. Now, in addition to the regularly produced catalogs and brochures for larger customers, so-called customer catalogs with individual scope and prices are produced.

The Shopify store system is supplied directly with data via an API server.
